前几天,我看到一个短视频,讲的是中国一些乡镇学校里初中生的状况。评论区里有人说,这不就变成欧美青少年那样了吗。发这条评论的是一个中国用户。对他来说,欧美青少年似乎天然就意味着叛逆、不讲礼貌、不尊重老师,也没有规则感。

我最近读译著时,常有一种奇怪的经验:明明每个字都认识,却不知道这句话到底在说什么。起初我会本能地怀疑自己:是不是原书本来就难?是不是相关知识我还没掌握?是不是作者的思想太复杂,所以我一时没有读懂?但反复对照和拆解之后,我越来越觉得,很多时候问题并不在读者,也不一定在原书,而在译文。更准确地说,问题不只是译者有没有看懂外文,而是译文有没有用中文把意思说清楚。
